Stamford resident Wayne Margarum has been sentenced to 18 months in prison, followed by two years of supervised release after pleading guilty to two counts of willful failure to file an income tax return after failing to do so for his business dating back to 2004.
For more than 40 years, Margarum has owned and operated Margarum Refuse, which provides garbage removal services. The business services approximately 600 to 700 with fees ranging from $25 to $60 per month.
Margarum pleaded guilty to not filing tax returns for himself or the business for 14 years in May last year.
Prior to his sentencing, Margarum paid $25,000 in taxes that he owed, and he still owes approximately $330,000 in back taxes, interest and penalties. Margarum, who had been released on bond, was remanded into the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service following his sentencing.
